Picture of Health

Carter is finally feeling better!

I finally took Carter to see Doctor Clayton yesterday. Turns out he's had bacterial bronchitis and conjunctivis...this can only be fixed with antibiotics which is why he wasn't getting any better. They gave him a shot of Ricefin (sp?) which is the antibiotics in shot form. We're already noticing a difference. He slept through the night for the first time in 3 weeks (meaning I also got to sleep through the night! Yeah!) and woke up without goopy eyes. He also is much happier. He's been so whiny and clingy it's been hard to get anything done lately. Today, he helped me wash the dishes, wipe the table and counters, and clean the living room...what a change! Speaking of cleaning, Shanda shared this thought from a friend:

WORK IS SACRED

Cleaning is incantation, Physical Prayer. YOU create a small and ordered sacred place that has been touched a thousand times by your hands. It’s a ritual of caring. The actual cleaning is sometimes secondary to the mental housekeeping that takes place. Cleaning your house is like pruning a tree. The house and the tree are both alive. You take care of the debris first, then stand back and look at the true form – and that clarity, that original vision is what happens in the mind.
By cleaning up our own homes, we take responsibility for ourselves and for preserving what we love. “My kingdom is not of this world.”
We should not have contempt for cleaning up after ourselves, picking up our own socks. There is much to be swept away and shined bright and scrubbed down to its deepest, most illuminating level. Think of all the chores we have yet to do, quietly on our knees, because HOME IS HOLY.

How true is that? When I'm not in a rush to get the house clean for preschool or guests and just cleaning to clean-it feels good. Today cleaning with Carter by my side helping felt so great. He was so excited to help and be a part of it all. Afterwards, we were both in such good moods and excited to play animals and read together. A clean home (and one spent cleaning together) truly brings the Spirit.

Here is a statue I created while cleaning. I call it the "pot and pan balancing act."
