New Baby

By Sunday (05/06/07) I was ready to get things rolling. I took Carter on a walk to Rock Canyon Park-all hills...and I took the hills fast. I was winded and tired...but no contractions. Hmph. I did lunges across our empty front room...still nothing. Tyson went to sacrament meeting at our new ward in Lehi, but I was too scared to head up that far from the hospital. Sara and I stayed in Provo and attended sacrament meeting at the Rock Canyon Ward. It was fun to see my friends and say goodbye again. I started feeling something during sacrament meeting and got excited. After dinner, Sara and I took Carter to the BYU botany pond to feed the ducks. Tyson was in Lehi emptying the last load from our apartment into the garage of our new house. (We had to leave everything in the garage because we couldn't get the keys to the house until closing...and once again, closing had been postponed.) Janessa, Craig, and the girls met up with us at the duck pond (they were in town for the weekend). And then the contractions began. Yeah! We called Tyson and told him to hurry down, left Carter with Janessa and Craig, and ran home to get my hospital bag. Here's a picture of me (37 weeks...and same outfit as 36 weeks...embarrassing) right before we left for the hospital.

When we got to the hospital, I was still only dilated to 5cm...the same as my appointment on Friday. At Friday's appointment, the doctor had said that if I hadn't delivered by Monday, they would probably induce because of the distance from Lehi and how fast I was dilating without feeling anything. At the hospital Sunday night they had me wait an hour to see if I dilated anymore....I hadn't and was worried they were going to send my back home with the painful contractions and no bed to sleep on (everything was at the Lehi garage). The doctor on call for Monday was my least favorite from the OB/GYN practice and I wasn't thrilled with the idea of being induced. The doctor on call Sunday (Dr. Jacobs) was my favorite from the practice. He decided to come and check me out. Yeah! He said the baby was coming and he would break my water to get things going. The contractions were really strong by this point, but I wasn't sure I needed an epidural yet. By 11pm I had dilated to a little over a 6 and was 90% effaced. He broke my water around 12:30am Monday morning. I immediately felt the contractions getting stronger and told the nurse I was ready for an epidural. They paged the anethesiologist (same one we had for Carter's birth...funny suspenders) who headed right over and started hooking up the IV equipment. He put the local anethesia on and put the needle in, then left to get the dosage machine. As soon as he left, I told the nurse I was in serious pain and she checked me...baby was definitely on her way. She called the doctor and I began pushing right away. A few minutes later, baby's head was crowning and by the time the anethesiologist made it back, the head was out. 5 more minutes and Taylee Mei had arrived, 6 pounds 8 ounces and 18 inches long. I hadn't planned on delivering without an epidural and it was definitely more painful than Carter's birth, but it was cool to experience it almost totally natural. Dr. Jacobs and my nurse, Tyanna, were incredible. They even brought a mirror over so I could watch everything going on. Tyson was right there by my side the whole time and Sara was in the room videotaping and taking pictures. It was such a neat birth. Carter's birth had a completely different feel, very sterile and more of an "emergency" feel in an operating room with Tyson all in white sterile robes and NICU nurses waiting through a clear glass door to take Carter away. Ty wore his Preventive jacket over a t-shirt for Taylee's birth and they kept Taylee in our room, cleaned her up, and gave her right to us.

Sara (still in shock) right after the birth Our little family later Monday morning
(Carter had spent the night with Jamin, Shanda and the boys)

We spent Monday morning and afternoon getting to know little Taylee and having our family back together (Sara brought Carter from Jamin and Shanda's around 10am). We also were on the phone with the title company and lender trying to figure out closing details. The lending had gone through and all documents had been sent to the title company. A close friend (Lynsey) works for the title company (her aunt owns it) and they were so gracious to come to the hospital and let us close Monday evening. The nurses all thought it was hilarious, me in a hospital gown holding my new baby while Tyson and I sat with the title officer filling out paperwork and signing our lives away. Needless to say, Monday 05/07/07 was quite the day. The last string was getting permission from the sellers (Rick and Britney Dalton) to get the keys and move in before funding went through (another 2-3 days). We called Rick's numbers over and over, but no response. Finally, we tried Britney's and got through. She had Rick call the title company with permission to hand over keys and Tyson drove up to Lehi late Monday night to move the beds from the garage into the house. We could now bring baby Taylee home to her new house on Tuesday! Yeah! We were so blessed. Heavenly Father was definitely watching out for us while still teaching us patience. Taylee had a couple of little health problems Monday (a respiratory problem that was gone by Tuesday and high bilirubin levels-jaundice), but she was okayed by the doctor to leave the hospital Tuesday morning. I was cleared by my doctor by 10am Tuesday, and we left the hospital with our little family at 10:30am to head to our new home in Lehi.
